Outlining a Quora answer is a simple yet effective way to organize your thoughts and provide valuable information to the Quora community. Whether you're an experienced writer or just starting out, having a structured outline can help you write well-organized and engaging answers.

In this blog post, I will explore the step-by-step process I use to create a Quora answer outline using two essential tools: Google and Google Docs.

If you follow this process, you'll streamline your writing and deliver high-quality answers that resonate with readers and help you meet your business goals.

So, if you're ready to learn how to create compelling Quora outlines, let's get started.

Getting Started: Open a Google Doc

The first thing you have to do is open a Google Document. Structure it into four sections: 1) The purpose of your answer, 2) resources for reference, 3) your answer outline, and 4) your Quora answer. Add a table of contents to quickly jump to the right sections.

This image shows an example of a table of contents on Google Docs.

Write Down Your Answer's Purpose

This step is crucial because it lets everyone know the goal you have for this particular piece of content. If you work alone, it helps you maintain clarity and focus on what matters most. If you are a business, it also helps all your team members know what kind of content they need to create to meet their business goals.

To show you what this section looks like, I’ll outline the question, “Which are the best digital marketing agencies?"

Here’s an example of my outline:

Resources For Reference

In this section, we save all the resources we’ll need to write our Quora answer. Think of all your data, articles that talk about a similar or the same topic, and any other resource that will help you improve the quality of your answer (links to videos, images, etc.).

Here’s an example of what it looks like:

Your Answer Outline

Your answer outline is literally what you need to cover in your answer. It doesn’t have to be very specific but it should help the writer know exactly what they need to cover, say, and the order in which they should tackle things.

Here’s an example of what it looks like:

Research Your Quora Answer

Now that your preliminary work is done, it’s time to research your Quora answer. The first thing I always do is run a Google search to see what's ranking. Then, I open the top 3-4 results and analyze all sections of each blog post.

Make a list of all the headings and check what they cover in each section. This is to give you an idea of the things you should cover in your answer.

This image shows the top three ranking pages on Google for the search "best marketing agencies".

For example, when I researched “Which are the best digital marketing agencies?”, I noticed that the top results were all lists. And after I opened the top pages, I noticed the trend was:

  • Mention the agency name
  • Describe what it is and what it does
  • A description of their services
  • And pricing when it’s publicly available

This allowed me to use that same structure to come up with my own outline and answer. After that, it was just a matter of checking the “People also ask” section to find out what else people wanted to know. Lastly, I simply included what made sense in my answer.

This image shows an example of what Google's "People also ask section" looks like. It shows four different searches related to marketing agencies.

Conclusion

Creating a Quora answer outline is straightforward when you have the right process. If you follow a systematic method, you'll effectively structure your answer, provide valuable information to Quora users, and meet your business goals.

One key aspect of writing a Quora answer outline is understanding the search intent behind the question. This involves analyzing what people want and determining the specific information they seek. By grasping this intent, you can tailor your answer to address their needs and ensure relevance and usefulness.

Remember, Quora answer outlines are used to provide concise yet comprehensive responses. It's important to organize your thoughts logically, presenting information in a clear and easy-to-follow format. If you do this, you’ll improve readability, make it easier for users to find the information they seek, and improve the odds of people taking steps toward your call to action.

I’ll say this again because it is so crucial. With the right process in place and an understanding of search intent, creating an effective Quora answer outline is easy.

By sharing valuable insights and addressing users' needs, you’ll establish yourself as an authoritative figure on Quora, provide helpful information to those seeking answers, and meet your business goals.
